Cimmeris walked into the living room, where a few of his teammates were hanging out, and put a smile on his face, despite the raw rejection he felt on the inside. He'd spent far too long cooped up in his room and knew from experience that he'd slip into a truly dark place if he kept to himself much more.

The day before, Emily had said that she didn't see a future with him. After the amazing make-out session they’d shared, he’d hoped that the sheer force of the connection between them would convince her to give them a chance, no matter how hard it would be. But he had been wrong.

Cimmeris knew that Emily was just thinking aloud and that she didn't mean to hurt him with her words, but it didn't change the fact that a part of her didn't want to risk it all for what they might have. And now that he'd accepted that she really could be his mate, it hurt something fierce. Emily hadn't rejected him, but the young boy in him interpreted it that way.

"Hey, guys. What's going on?" Cimmeris asked, throwing himself down onto the couch beside Corrus.

"Not much. It's just the usual," Veilios said. "Zara and Narchis are locked away in their bedroom, and Penum is sitting here plotting ways to escape the base."

Cimmeris chuckled. "That does sound like a regular day around here lately."

"Exactly!" Penum said, clapping his hands together. "It's too much routine. I'm going to go crazy if I don't bust out of here."

"No one's holding you hostage," Veilios reminded him.

Penum scoffed. "Yeah, but if Narchis or Colonel Soros catch wind of me leaving, I could get fired. I fought too hard to get on the squad to go back to the regular army."

"Why don't you come shopping with me," Corrus suggested.

"Uh, firstly, I'm pretty sure I'd draw far too much attention. I just can't help how big my biceps are," Penum said, flexing.

Cimmeris picked up a pillow and threw it at him. "Gods, how conceited can you be!"

"I'm not conceited. I just know a good thing when I see it. And I see all my physical prowess when I look in the mirror. Add this beautiful blonde hair to these bright green eyes and boom," Penum said, slapping his hands together, "you get an irresistible specimen."

Veilios rolled his eyes. "Well, now that we've established that all your 'sexiness' can't leave this house, what are you going to do to keep from going crazy?"

Penum leaned back in his armchair, chewing the inside of his cheek. "I don't know. That's why I thought I'd bring it up with you guys."

"Instead of making snarky comments about every activity we try to put on," Veilios teased, his brown eyes twinkling.

Cimmeris couldn't help but laugh, and even Corrus, who was loyal to a fault, snickered.

"I need some action, guys," Penum wailed. "You've got to take this seriously."

Cimmeris smiled. "All right. I've got an idea. How about I let you fight me again, but, this time, you won't attack from the side like a punk.
